Item Description
12.5x24" hard cover is stamped in gold on spine "Smilin' Jack Oct. 1936 Aug. 1939". Book is bound in reverse sequence and runs from Oct. 12, 1936 to Sept. 3, 1939 and prints six dailies on front side of pulp paper sheets and full color Sunday pages on high quality one sided slick paper. Covers have lt. scuffs and trace of lt. wear but otherwise Fine. Pulp paper daily strip pages are lightly tanned at blank margin edges and several pages from July 1937 have small tears at top corner and blank bottom edges. Overall daily pages are Fine/VF, slick paper Sunday pages are Exc. The daily version of this comic strip started on June 15, 1936 which is only a few months earlier than this volume begins. Wonderful art throughout by creator Zack Mosley who started in comics as an assistant to Dick Calkins on Buck Rogers and Skyroads. Smilin' Jack was the longest running aviation comic strip in history and lasted from 1933 to 1973. Superb examples of Mosley art throughout. Possibly bound for Mosley's personal collection. Historic and unique.
