Item Description
This is the last issue of the title’s run. The book had been based on an action doll that the Ideal Toy Company had been producing. Unfortunately, Ideal had canceled the doll the year before this issue was published. Still, nothing can stop the power of Gil Kane and his art. It is his work on the book that leaves this short, five-issue run with such a strong following. It clearly matches his work on the Green Lantern and the Atom . The covers he did for the title’s short run are among the most dramatic that he has ever done. It was almost as if he was unleashed and could go crazy. The presence of the rioters on this cover is considered by many to be a veiled reference to the riotous state of America in 1969. Captain Action can easily be viewed as the authority figure with everyone looking to rebel against him. For the story behind the character of Captain Action, please find our solicitation for Captain Action #3 elsewhere in this auction. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 9.4 (NM). According to the CGC Census, this copy is tied with one other as the third-highest graded copy they have seen.
