Item Description
The cover image to this issue is one of the most recognizable comic book covers ever created. Batman wasn’t the first masked millionaire hero to appear in the pages of Detective Comics; that honor is reserved for The Crimson Avenger. However, Batman was far and away the most successful. Take note that Batman’s “cape” seems to be functioning more like wings than a cape normally would; it appears to be attached to his glove. This is the only time that it appeared in such a fashion. By the time of his third cover, Detective #33, the cape was definitely functioning as we know it today. The contents of this issue immediately set the stage for Batman’s career. It contains a six-page story that reveals Batman’s secret identity as Bruce Wayne. It also contains the first appearance of Commissioner Gordon. The cover art is by Bob Kane. The original intention was that Detective Comics would serve as an anthology of stories that revolved around detective stories. The most popular before Batman showed up was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Slam Bradley may have looked like Superman, but he was definitely human. The book has several other detective-themed stories. The pages are off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified 7.0 (FN/VF) CGC lists the restoration as apparent and moderate professional. Restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, tear seals, cleaning
