Item Description
Three items total. 8 3/8x10 7/8" typewritten letter on “King-Trendle Broadcasting Corporation” Detroit Michigan letterhead is dated January 3, 1945 and addressed to writer Harrison Young Bingham in Evanston, Illinois. Warmly written three paragraph letter notes “I Hate To Send This Back To You, Because I Know The Amount Of Work That Went Into It. I Do Like Your Writing. I’ll Not Ask You To Try Another Script Until We’ve Met And Discussed The Thing So You’ll Have More Working Equipment” with an invitation to come to Detroit. Letter has bold black fountain pen ink signature “Fran Striker”. Letter has three folds as mailed and blank reverse side has a few lt. rust marks from paperclip no longer present. Comes with the aforementioned script, 30 sheets each 8.5x10.75" typewritten on front side only titled “The Kid Prospector”. Well written script includes notes for staging story. Upper left corner of all sheets have two paperclip impressions with trace of lt. oxidation on front of top sheet and back of last sheet. Letter and script are Fine. Comes with recent 7.75x10" glossy reprint photo of Fran Striker in 1942 looking at cowboy gun with his typewriter nearby and Lone Ranger painting on wall in background. Fran Striker (1903-1962) was an American writer for radio and comic strips, best known for creating the Lone Ranger, the Green Hornet, and Sgt. Preston of the Yukon. He began his career with station owner George W. Trendle at Radio Station WXYZ in Detroit creating and writing radio scripts. He began working on the Lone Ranger in late 1932 reworking stories from his earlier series Covered Wagon Days. He also wrote Lone Ranger novels, two movie serials and the Lone Ranger comic strip as well as later TV versions. Striker’s autograph is extremely rare and this is a friendly letter giving encouragement to a young writer. Letter and photo would frame nicely together. Comes with Hake’s COA.
