Braddock (1905-1974) held the World Heavyweight Championship from 1935 to 1937. He lost several bouts and worked on docks during the Great Depression which earned him the nickname "The Cinderella Man" from Damon Runyon. He had a total of 86 fights with 51 wins, 26 by knockout. The 2005 biographical film "Cinderella Man", directed by Ron Howard and starring Russell Crowe told his story. Well written book includes a foreword by Damon Runyon.
