Item Description
First is 5/8" tall brass pin reading "American Youth Congress" and showing profile heads of a young man and woman. This was issued by a 1930's organization comprising young people from across the country who held several 'Congresses' to address issues facing young people. It was supported by first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and the group was seen as a precursor to the establishment of the National Youth Administration. The second items reads "American League For Peace & Democracy." This is 9/16" showing four representative citizens from different walks of life. This group was founded by the Communist Party in 1933 under the name "American League Against War and Fascism" which then changed its name in 1937 to that appearing on this item. Following two items are each 7/8" celluloid buttons with backpaper by Harris of NYC. These were issued for the "American Congress For Peace And Democracy/Washington, DC/Jan 6-8, 1939." These two were issued for an anti-war event sponsored by the American League for Peace & Democracy. All items are Exc. to Mint. The two metal pins are particularly scarce.
