Item Description
7/8" button has covered metal back with vertical pin and stamped name of early celluloid printer "Baldwin & Gleason Co." Pictured is a rat seated upon a graphic of a sunburst with the text "Boycott Sun" referencing a famous strike against this New York newspaper which began in 1899 and lasted for 17 months. "Boycott Sun" became a battle cry in NYC and these buttons were distributed nationally although quite scarce today. There is a fairly deep .25" scratch on the lower right but this just barely shows with normal viewing and the button remains clean and glossy. We know of no earlier newspaper strike button. Still displays Exc.
