Auction #203 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1428 in auction 203
Item Description
This 1.25" rare historical souvenir pictures the globe plus photos of competing claimants of Pole discovery in 1909 showing Cook at left and Peary at right flanking the text "I Discovered The-." Serving as a 3-dimensional rebus is a 1-3/8" tall pointed piece of wood (shaped like the Washington Monument) suspended from a thin wire. Reverse has Bastian paper. Our one other complete example with the pole intact from the Hake Collection well exceeded $300. This example has a tiny pinpoint cello nick near very bottom edge at 7 o'clock but otherwise condition is NM and the piece certainly still displays NM with full gloss. Rare.
