Item Description
2.25" tall with .75" long very detailed depiction of lighter than air craft with the word "Toledo" across the front of the air bag. This was an actual airship created by Roy Knabensheu. On October 25, 1904, at the St. Louis World's Fair, he became the first person to successfully pilot a dirigible in the United States. This airship was built the following year later in 1905 and it flew at Toledo on July 4 of that year. It was the first streamlined dirigible in the United States. A month later he made the first flight of an airship over Manhattan, taking off from Central Park and circling the Times Building. A remarkable piece of early aviation history. Nice luster. Only example we have seen. See following somewhat related item.
