Item Description
Each of these pieces has hand engraved details. The money clip is in silvered metal 1.75x2-5/8 tall. Reverse metal forms a slot into which folded paper money can be inserted. The lighter bears the word "Cupid" under the base. This is without flint but it would presumably operate with the addition of flint and fuel. The lighter front carries the text "Memory of Japan." Each piece is hand engraved depicting a woman with one raise hand as if she is smelling flowers. When each piece is turned upside down the image changes and the upper part of the design pictures her hand with extended finger at her vagina. The lighter carries a second similar scene on its reverse. The lighter shows slight bit of general wear on the case silvering with just the tiniest bit of brass showing through at a couple of places. This design concept dates back to the early 1900s when the same image was used on pocket mirrors covered in celluloid. These are the only two examples we have seen from the World War II years.
