Item Description
7/8" with ornate b/w backpaper reading "Alfred E. Stokes Maker/228 Pitt St/Sydney." This button shows a kangaroo wearing Australian style hat kicking up his feet at hats representing two members of the Quadruple Alliance. The picture of the fez with tassel represents Mohammed V (Mehmed V Sultan of Ottoman Empire). The other hat represents Kaiser Wilhelm's helmet. The text surrounding the kangaroo reads "Fight On/Fight Ever/Boycott German Trade." The white background of the button has tiny gray speckles giving it a slight gray tone but this is as made as the microscopic marks are under the celluloid and on the paper but not stain. Piece still displays glossy and VF. Only example we've seen. An outstanding WWI cartoon button. Morry Greener Collection. See item #885.
