Item Description
15/16" enamel on brass with die-cut image of Popeye and his pipe. Reverse has vertical tube with inserted bar pin. Front of the piece reads "Club Popeye-Sailors-Inn-Yokosuka-Tel 1982." While this piece dates from the 1930s or 1940s this establishment remains in operation today and as an article from January 2007 Stars And Stripes reports people don't come to Popeyes for food (there is none), and they don't come for fancy treatment. What they come for are "Put-Hair-On-Your-Chest-Cocktails" and to enjoy the atmosphere of one of the navy's oldest popular bars located near the Yokosuka Naval Base. Exc. and we've seen just a couple over the years. Morry Greener Collection.
