Item Description
1.25" with no maker's name issued in 1941 to the relatively few readers signing on to become a "U.S. Jones Cadet" and who received a "National Emergency Kit" consisting of this membership button, a decoder and additional membership materials. The various items are detailed in Hake's Pop Culture Guide where this button is the lead off item as USJ-1. The book has values in Good, Fine, and NM of $1250.00, $3500.00, and $6000.00. This is only the third time we've been able to offer this button. The reverse has typical tan oxidation. Around the brass luster collet are about a half dozen tiny pinpoint age dots but absolutely no stain at all shows from the front of the button. The button's surface does have some nearly microscopic pinpoints of raised celluloid, perfectly clear and essentially just a trifle noticeable to the touch but visually not at all even in reflected light. The button displays perfectly Mint with perfect centering, intense full color and a full gloss finish. The area with these tiny dots just noticeable to the touch is largely limited to the upper left quadrant. Considering all of the things that can go wrong with a button, this is exceedingly minor as it has no impact on what is essentially Mint appearance. Rare. See the following equally rare comic book club button from 1942.
