Typically this ring has a brass finish but this example was obviously silver-plated although vast majority of the silvering is gone from the sides but still with about 70% remaining on the top which has high relief head of a bulldog flanked by the "Devil Dogs" title left and right and a small letter "V" on the top which was the initial of the original owner. The ring was offered in the Quaker cereal newspaper ads and tied in with the Warner Bros. movie "Devil Dogs of the Air" starring James Cagney and telling the story of U.S. Marine Flying Corps. A rare variety in Fine condition.
