Lot of 36 different, each 2.5x4" thin stiff paper w/high gloss coating on the front. Fronts feature nice portrait images w/name below. All backs have same design including text promoting Royal Glue along w/two puzzles. These cards are listed in The American Card Catalog as H566 w/title "Famous Men." However, there is one woman in the set, Mrs. Grover Cleveland. That card is in this lot as well as the companion card for Grover himself. Other cards feature additional political figures, Civil War Generals, religious leaders, actors, industrialists, lawyers, etc. Other cards in this lot are: Andrew Carnegie, A.W. Greely, Edwin Booth, Jefferson Davis, Cardinal Jacobini, Henry M. Stanley, John Sherman, Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, Winfield Scott Hancock, Frank Hiscock, Jos. E. Johnston, Frederick III, John F. Swift, Geo. W. Childs, John C. Spooner, T.M. Healy, Jay Gould, Wm. M. Evarts, Chas. S. Fairchild, Wilson Barrett, Hon. David B. Hill, Terrence V. Powderly, Jas. Gordon Bennett, Jr., Chas. A. Parnell, Henry George, S.J. Randall, Bret Harte, Leland Stanford, Jules Ferry, Jos. R. Hawley, Generals- U.S. Grant, W.T. Sherman, Robert E. Lee, General Boulanger. A card was made for boxer John L. Sullivan but that is not included in this lot. Few have lt. crease. Most just have minor margin/corner tip wear. Backs lightly aged. Overall Exc. Relatively scarce and obscure series.
