Item Description
Invitation is for event held Sunday September 20, 1964 at the conclusion of their 33 day, 23 city North American tour. 5x7" four page invitation printed in green tone on high quality deckle finish paper to benefit “United Cerebral Palsy Of New York City, Inc. And Retarded Infants Services, Inc.”. Front cover has nice photo of all four Beatles in suits with text at top “May We Cordially Invite You...” with text continuing on inside “To Spend An Evening With The Beatles Who, Together With Prominent American Personalities Will Appear At The New York Paramount Theatre On Sunday Evening, September 20, 8:30 P.M.”. Lower right has seat prices including: “Orchestra: $100, $50, $25; Balcony: $25, $15, $10, $5". Back cover has list of “The Committee” with Mrs. William C. Langley as Chairman and Mrs. George G. Milliken as Co-chairman with additional list of 36 names. Invitation has 3/8" tan streak at right side of front cover, tan streaks around margins of inside and lt. tan streak at center left side of back cover from scrapbook removal. Lower right corner of front cover has barely noticeable tiny margin edge tear. Overall Fine. The event was co-hosted by Ed Sullivan along with Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme and other performers included Jackie DeShannon, Leslie Uggams, Nancy Ames, and the Brothers Four. The event had 3682 attendees and raised $25,000. Glory Steinem interviewed John Lennon after the concert and the interview ran in the December 1964 issue of Cosmopolitan as a cover story. The Beatles head of publicity Derek Taylor had an argument with Beatles manager Brian Epstein and resigned the morning after the concert just before the group was to head back to England. An extremely rare Beatles item held at a theatre with very limited seating capacity. Only one known to us. See next item #3095 for program for this event.
