Item Description
Most are 8.5x11" all addressed to newsman Harry McLaughlin. All have mailing folders, but otherwise clean with minor exception of a few dark spots on earliest. He signed either "Sergeant Shriver" or "Sarge Shriver." #1. From 8/30/72 he says he cannot supply a "Shriver For President" banner from 1970 as he was not a candidate and doesn't know who made them. #2. From 11/30/79 on law firm stationery, a thank you for photos with reference to Orioles winning World Series in 1980. #3. Nine letters range from 1991-1995 all on Special Olympics stationery in his role as Chairman of the Board. First references Orioles game where color photo is taken. Most others mention Special Olympian participant and spokeswoman Loretta Claiborne of York (she became the subject of a Disney movie) who was born partially blind and unable to walk or talk until four but then became skilled runner and a global speaker. McLaughlin kept Shriver up to date on her activities which Shriver references in many letters. Last is 7/19/95 from Eunice Kennedy Shriver signed "Eunice" also thanking McLaughlin for article on Claiborne. Green ink on this bled a little. From the Harry McLaughlin Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
