Item Description
Debs opposition in speeches to WWI got him convicted for sedition and he entered the federal penitentiary in Atlanta April 13, 1919. This 6x9" four page brochure was issued by the Debs Amnesty Committee early in 1920 to promote events leading up to the first anniversary of his imprisonment on April 13, 1920. The four main points of the campaign specified in the brochure are: 1) Drive for a million signatures on petition to release political prisoners. 2) Amnesty headquarters to open in D.C. March 4. 3) Major demonstration in D.C. April 13-14 with parade, meetings, presentation of petitions to Congress, picketing White House and Congress. 4) Follow up daily delegations meeting with Senators and Congress until Debs is released. Paper has tan tone, but is not brittle. Has one 1/8" edge nick. Not folded as perfect rectangle, but NM as issued. First we've offered.
