Item Description
c.1910. 18.5x24.5" vintage wood frame has mat with two openings. Top opening is 10.5x16.25" with well-done original art in charcoal with scene in living room of man in suit standing in center watching well-dressed woman on couch crying. Second opening is 7/8x5.25" with blue pencil inscription “To Gibbs With Regards From F. Walter Taylor”. Frame has lt. wear around edges, original mat has some aging with scattered tanning but original art and inscription are Exc. A new archival mat would greatly enhance the appearance of this item. Frank Walter Taylor (1874-1921) was a major early 20th century American illustrator. He regularly contributed to magazines like “Harper’s Monthly” and “Collier’s”. He also authored and illustrated a number of stories for leading periodicals and was a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Society of Illustrators. He received a Medal of Honor for illustration at the Panama Pacific International Exposition in 1915. Well-drawn example of his work.
