Item Description
The vast majority of these satirical pieces spoofing Bryan's desire for a 16 to 1 gold to silver value ratio are made of white metal and occasionally in cast iron. This is the only brass example known to us. The item is quite heavy and measures 3/8" thick by 3-3/8" dia., holed as made. Front has liberty head with slogans "In McKinley We Trust/In Bryan We Bust." Reverse shows eagle surrounded by text "Billy Bryan's Idea Of Free Coinage 16 To 1." Each side has scattered small indentation marks in the surface of the metal and the outer edge is a tad irregular as excess brass was ground off after the piece was cast. Still overall condition is Fine as made. See following two related lots. Rare.
