Item numbers 1 through 1446 in auction 204
Item Description
First the item, then the circumstances of Clinton's use of this very item. The item is a metal pen designed as a thin cigar 3/8" dia. by 4-3/8" long. One end of the case pulls off to reveal the ballpoint pen, still working. The side of this tube reads "Thanks For The Memories" and below this is a facsimile signature "Bill Clinton." On the beveled end of this tube is a full color photo of Bill Clinton beneath a translucent plastic covering. He is smiling and wearing a sports shirt with some type of a white hat. At the mid-section of the pen is a paper wrapper, like a cigar band. This shows the Presidential Seal in color with the side panels giving a Providence, Rhode Island address and also stating "Lifetime Guarantee/Made In The U.S.A." There is tiny loss of gold color from the label edges, otherwise the item is Mint. The pen comes with an 8.5x11" paper sheet signed by the original purchaser of the pen and with the signature and impressed seal of a Notary Public in Carroll County, Md. Paper has two folds and a number of small creases from handling and mailing. The typed statement (followed by purchaser's signature) tells the story: "I purchased the cigar shaped "Thanks For The Memories" pen 12/27/2000 this was shortly after President Clinton's 2000 Christmas Eve visit to the shoppes in Historic Union Station, Washington DC. An employee of the political memorabilia store told me that the President seemed to be rather amused while doodling with the cigar styled pen on the nearby scratch pad. The employee stated that the President had made several political memorabilia gift shop purchases, however he opted not the purchase the cigar pen...after viewing the signature, initials etc. on the scratch pad I was informed the doodles were not for sale. I was able to negotiate a purchase for the very pen the 42nd President had used on Christmas Eve 2000. ANA Member K-3153476." (Plus signature). A unique item that comes not only with the notarized statement but also Hake's COA. A modest opening bid.
