Item Description
All items are late 1890s. Three china plates are each 9.25" dia. with three different art images. No chips or cracks but some wear to gold trim and all show typical crazing. One has moderate age darkening. VG. Other two are Fine/VF. Six thin glass drinking glasses are each 3.75" tall with three different etched images of the Maine including four matching which have text "Remember The Maine". Four matched glasses are Exc., one of two remaining glasses has tiny rim chip and is Fine. 4.25" tall thick china mug has color transfer image on front with text "U.S. Battleship Maine, Destroyed In Havana Harbor, Feb. 15th 1898" with image of ship and furled flag at top along with eagle holding arrows. Mug has chip along back bottom edge and image has a few lt. color rubs. Fine. 3-7/8" long paperweight has photo of battleship in center with text "Avenge The Maine!" along with photos of Admiral Dewey, Rear Admiral Sampson, General Fitzhugh Lee and Major General Nelson Miles. Trace of lt. wear, underside paper is a bit worn. Fine. Last item is 5x9-5/8x3-5/8" deep wooden cigar box with nicely embossed gold image of "Maine" on top and name "Sigsbee" on front panel. Printed label on inside lid has different image of "Maine" with text at left "The Queen Of Ships" and text at right "The King Of Cigars". Paper label on back has text "Cutler Bros. & Co., Boston, Mass Distributing Agents For L. Kahner & Co." Outside edges have nice label strips with repeat images of American flag with anchor and stars. Scattered wear with some aging but still displays Fine. An interesting group of Span-Am war items relating to the Maine.
