Item Description
This is an incredible collection of 2-1/8" serially numbered buttons issued by the "Commonwealth of Virginia/Bureau of Labor and Industrial Statistics" with each designated "Child Labor Street Permit." Each button has a tin reverse with horizontal pin plus a cut out in the metal displaying a cardboard insert where the child signed their name, address and date of birth. The birth dates on these twelve buttons range from 1907 up to 1912. Eleven of the twelve are largely readable. The four buttons in the top row of our photo designate "Errand Boy." The following eight buttons all designate "News Boy." There are three different color schemes among the twelve buttons. Those with some visible age stain on the outer edge are row one #2 and #3 and row two #1 and row three #2. The "Errand Boy" serial numbers run from "5853" up to "6188." The "News Boy" serial numbers run from "433" up to "5997." A remarkable collection of unique buttons.
