Item Description
This item, exact purpose unknown, is made of cast aluminum 3.75" long by 2-5/8" tall and .75" deep with on the reverse a thin metal rod extending .75" which allows the piece to be propped up for display, but otherwise its function (if any) is a mystery to us. On the left is a rear view of a pig with raised tail, on the right is a rear view of a donkey with red raised tail, in the center is the high relief face of Joseph Stalin. These three elements are all above the bottom panel with raised lettering "Three Of A Kind." Most likely made shortly after Stalin signed his pact with Nazi Germany August 23, 1939. The secret part of the pact divided the whole of eastern Europe into German and Soviet spheres of influence. After Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939 precipitating World War II on September 17th the Red Army invaded eastern Poland and by June 1940 Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were merged into the Soviet Union resulting in the deaths of thousands of citizens. Item has small age traces but no damage. Only example we've seen.
