Item Description
c.1950s designed for Friedrich’s Bread but never produced. 7.25x10" consisting of five stiff paper sheets taped together at spine to form mock-up comic book style premium. The series as issued had art by Walt Kelly and though this is similar it is not by Kelly. Storyline has miniature Peter Wheat and his Beetle friend finding a pocket watch and jumping on it and going back in time where they meet the chief baker of Wheat Town who is trying to prevent invading magpies from eating wheat which is needed for George Washington’s Army. Storyline is designed to be continued and ends with Peter Wheat and his baker friends building a large Trojan horse that they plan to fill with ammunition. Last inside page has game and puzzle graphics. Back cover is blank. Top of front cover has actual text cut from published “Peter Wheat” comic book with his name hand-colored and printed image of him wearing crown at left side, otherwise entire rest of book is original art. Trace of lt. dust soil here and there but Fine/VF appearance with bright color and great design. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold, accompanied by a letter to that effect from Gordon Gold. Additional photos online.
