Item Description
Three items relating to 1958 movie "The Goddess" with screenplay by Paddy Chayefsky which starred Kim Stanley about a blonde actresses rise to fame in Hollywood which loosely paralleled Marilyn Monroe’s career. Items are from 1957. First is 8.5x11" two page typewritten letter plus two page carbon copy, both signed in ink by Lawyer John F. Wharton sent from a Madison Avenue, New York City legal firm representing “Miss Monroe and her husband Mr. Arthur Miller”. Letter is addressed to Lawyer Lee Moselle and includes paragraph text “In View Of This Refusal To Permit Miss Monroe Or Her Representatives To Examine The Revised Script, We Must Affirm Our Notice That Miss Monroe Will Hold Mr. Chayefsky, Carnegie Productions, Inc. And Columbia Pictures Corporation Accountable For All Damages Suffered By Her As The Result Of Mr. Chayefsky’s Script And/Or The Production, Distribution, And Exhibition Of This Motion Picture. We Shall Reserve The Right To Take Whatever Action May Be Necessary To Protect Our Client’s Right In This Matter” signed in blue ballpoint pen John F. Wharton. Letter and carbon copy both have handling folds as mailed, both sheets of onion skin carbon copy have creasing at lower right but otherwise pair is Fine/VF. Also comes with signed carbon copy dated July 19, 1957 “Executed In Behalf Of Ed Sullivan By Carmine Santiello” which grants the film production company permission to use Ed Sullivan’s name in the movie. Signed in fountain pen “Ed Sullivan Per Camine Santiello”. Exc. Historic piece of film history related to Marilyn Monroe.
