Item Description
Extensive lot, 35 from set of 50, each is about 1.5x2.5". These cards feature photographs of the boxers rather then drawings which is a first for a 20th century set. Backs have Red Sun advertising. Among the boxing legends in this lot are Jim Jeffries, Abe Attell, Stanley Ketchel, Battling Nelson, Patsy Brannigan, Sailor Burke, Jack Twin Sullivan, Knockout Brown, Tommy O'Keefe, and many others. All are graded by SGC and designated by them as being from the Richard Merkin collection and comes w/Hake's COA. SGC grades and number of cards in that grade are as follows: 60 EX 5 (3 cards)  Battling Nelson, Patsy Brannigan, Unk Russell. 50 VG/EX 4 (9 cards)  Sailor Burke, Charley Griffin, Young Donahoe, Jim Jeffries, Bert Keyes, Harry Lewis, Grover Hayes, Al Kaufman, Jack Twin. 40 VG 3 (16 cards) Knockout Brown, Eddie Walsh, Harry Stone, Young Nitchie, Stanley Ketchel, Abe Attell, Tommy O’Keefe, Owen Moran, Willie Lewis, Matty Baldwin, Johnny Coulon, Leach Cross, Dick Hyland, Mickey Gannon, Mike Twin Sullivan, Jem Driscoll. 30 Good 2 (2 cards) Bill Papke, Tommy Sullivan. 20 Fair 1.5 (2 cards) Jimmie Gardner, Ad. Wolgast. 10 Poor 1 (2 cards) Johnny Marto, Jimmy Walsh. A: Authentic (1 card) Young Loughrey. Cards in this set saw very limited distribution and are among the earliest, rarest and most desirable of all boxing cards. Obtaining this many cards at once is a very rare opportunity, especially in these conditions, with the vast majority grading VG or better. Designated by SGC as being from the "Richard Merkin Collection" and comes with Hake's COA.
