Item Description
C.1955. Wonderful premium issued by Quaker Cereals in conjunction with the Sgt. Preston of the Yukon program. 2x9" rare mailer with return address of “Deed” with Chicago, Illinois box number has image of prospector panning for gold with text “Authentic Deed To One Sq. Inch Of Land In Yukon Gold Rush Country!” with label addressed to female recipient in Arlington, Va. Envelope is heavily worn with creasing and tears around edges. Just Fair. Contains 4x6" two-sided information sheet titled “Now You Are A Real Sourdough!” with image of prospector at top. Text includes “Just Sign Your Name To This Authentic Deed And You Automatically Become An Owner Of 1 Square Inch Of Land In The Yukon Gold Rush Country”. Additional text mentions “The Way You Get There Is By Boat Down The Treacherous Yukon River Or By Mushing Across The Wilderness”. Reverse side offers more deeds for one cereal box top. A few lt. handling creases. Fine. Two sided deeds are each 5.5x8" w/ high quality design similar to stock certificate or bank note and individually numbered. Front includes map showing location of land near Dawson and reverse side has facsimile signatures and seal. Each has printed date of January 4, 1955. Each deed has lt. vertical and horizontal folds through center as mailed, 21 of the 23 have ink signature with same name as addressed on mailer, and other two have ink signatures. One deed has 1" vertical tear at center bottom fold line, otherwise deeds are essentially Mint except for signatures. Unusual to find so many at one time sent to the same recipient.
