Item Description
4.5x14x16" boxed tin litho wind-up by Automatic Toy Co. Staten Island c.1950. Lid has nice art of youngsters using shooting gallery including boy in cowboy outfit and lower right has nice photo of William Boyd as Hoppy with gun drawn on back of Topper. Lid has color rubs around edges with a few lt. creases, lower right corner seam has split and top end side has 1" diagonal tear at lower left. Fine. Toy unfolds to 7" tall x14" wide target area plus a 15.5" outward extension on bottom front tapered end. Extension has tin gun on swivel turret. Gun is loaded by pulling shooting rod to rear allowing metal ball to fall into gun barrel. Designed with a wind-up action which drives a cable holding a sequence of die-cut tin miniature stagecoach followed by four robbers on horseback. All fall backward if struck by ammunition ball. Targets have various point values. Foreground pictures Hoppy, Lucky, California with guns drawn. Toy is not working, key winds but does not produce any tension. Missing two generic steel ball bearings. Reverse side of target area has a few hairline scratches but front appearance of toy is glossy and NM.
