Item Description
Exceptionally large undated cartoon possibly from August 1962 time frame as previous item or earlier. The litho pencil/india ink art is 11.5x16" under acetate and with masking tape on reverse edges to hold it in a gray mat used as part of an exhibition of the editorial cartoons collected by Gordon Campbell (also an editorial cartoonist). Mat is titled at top "Bruce Russell Los Angeles Times" and at bottom (repeating the penciled titled on reverse) "Treasury Ball Game." The cartoon is signed by a paste on facsimile signature (as made). Russell was with the L.A. Times for thirty years and won his Pulitzer in 1946. Cartoon shows massive football player labeled "Federal Spending" looming over diminutive old man holding "Economy Boosting" football and wearing "Tax Cut" helmet. Dust soil on blank reverse. Art displays Mint as made.
