Item Description
1.75x3-3/8" green card on one side states "Greenback" and carries name of "Henry L. Martin." This is likely the same Henry Martin, one legged Civil War vet and U.S. Treasury employee, who began molding macerated paper money into figural souvenirs in D.C. around 1881. The card is c. the 1880 or 1884 presidential campaign when James Weaver and then Benjamin Butler were the nominees. One side of card is designed as "One Greenback" and covered in slogans including "Organize Greenback Clubs - For This We Will Battle - By The People - National Greenback Currency - For The People." The party also supported women suffrage, income tax, and an eight hour day. The card side with Martin's name has faint ink inscription on left "Same Price As Chromo No.3." Side with design has printer name on margin "Bufford Boston." Rare and VF.
