Item Description
3.5x5x1.25" deep stiff cardboard box with paper label on top of Uncle Sam standing on U.S. soil booting a bearded Bolshevik in red shirt and with burning fuse bomb back across the Atlantic toward "Russia." c. 1920 "Red Scare" era with "Pat. Ap'd For" and maker's name Chas. H. Belknap Co. New York, N.Y. on the label. Top of the box is open with a mirror on an angle inserted on top. Inside once had a red capsule now replaced by a Tylenol colored red. Under the front cover is a red metal compartment with its front opening guarded by a vertical metal post. Using the mirror to see inside the covered area, the object is to get the capsule into the red compartment. Reverse has instruction label and suggests use as a party game. There is also a gold seal reading "Schwerdtmann's Toys St. Louis." Instructions are tanned. Box label has dust soil. Mirror has become a bit dark but still functions for game use. One box corner has white tape reinforcement. Overall VG and one of the few 3-D items made in the U.S. to relate to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 and American reaction to it c. 1920.
