Item Description
Spanish c. 1950s. 4x7x8.25" tall overall plastic with wonderful detailed image of Cantinflas as bull fighter holding fabric in front of red bull with both atop a wheeled base. Foil string tag around neck has "Cantinflas" name. When toy is pulled both figures turn on disc. Exc. Cantinflas was a Mexican comic film actor, producer and screenwriter often referred to as the Charlie Chaplin of Mexico. He costarred with David Niven in a Golden Globe award winning role in the 1956 movie "Around The World In Eighty Days." Based on the Jules Verne novel, there is a comic bull fighting sequence in the film created especially for Cantinflas that is not in the book. This toy is based on that sequence. Exc. A great 1950s plastic toy. Interesting and rare.
