Item Description
1" (25mm) brass shell rim holed as made with a ferrotype portrait of the candidates on each side. Listed as DeWitt/Sullivan SD1860-39. Text reads "Stephen A. Douglas./1860" with the date accented at left and right by a palm spray rather than the much more frequently seen olive branch spray. Reverse reads "Herschel V. Johnson/1860." Each ferrotype portrait has a trivial microscopic hairline or two in the emulsion surface but absolutely no chips or cracks. The Douglas ferro displays extremely clearly while the Johnson ferro is just a trifle to the darker side but still with extremely clear details on close inspection. Brass rim has nice original luster traces on each side. A superior example completely free of damage to the emulsion.
