Item Description
Beautiful multi-color enamel on brass pin 1-3/8" wide. This structure, years in the building, was completed in time for TR's January 2, 1899 inaugural and was the most expensive government building of its time. Inauguration Day was bright but so cold that the brass instruments of the band escorting him through the streets of Albany froze into silence. However the streets were jammed with the largest crowd of well wishes ever seen in the Capitol. As Edmund Morris writes in "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt": "It Was As If The Whole Twenty-Two-Million-Dollar Structure Had Been Built Just For Him." Enamel has some tiny scratches over the left turret but showing just a little in reflected light. Still displays essentially Mint.
