Item Description
c. 1940s. 4 1/8x9.5" envelope is unused with "Timely Comics, Inc. Empire State Building, New York City" return address featuring Golden Age Capt. America, Bucky, Sub-Mariner and The Torch. Unused with lt. tanning/aging overall and darker glue tanning lines on reverse. Flap sealed shut. Fine. 8.5x11" printed letter dated October 5, 1949 on "Timely Comics, Inc." letterhead was sent to vice president of the Art Instruction, Inc. mail order course by Angelo Genovese. Addressed to Mr. Sher, Genovese explains his four year history as a cartoonist and ends saying "I Owe Any Success That I've Obtained To Art Instruction, Inc. This Isn't A Testimonial, It's A Fact!". Reverse side has two examples of his comic book work: "Jill's Diary/Dotty 'N Dick". Letter has two punch holes at left, likely inserted into a binder to be sent to prospective students. Cartoonists Charles M. Schulz and Mort Walker both took this course and became mail order instructors. Interesting content. Exc.
