Item Description
c. early 1960s for coin operated jukebox which played films of actual performances. 11-7/8x34.75" sign has musical staff and notes incorporated into text "See And Hear Your Favorite Stars On Scopitone A Product Of Tell-A-Sign, Chicago, Ill. Here Soon!" Right side has image of machine. Sign has lt. handling wear. Fine. Boxed penguin "Superlighter" is 1.75x2" with "Scopitone" name on one side and image of machine on reverse. Unused and Mint. The Scopitone jukebox featured 16mm films of singers performing songs, a forerunner of music videos. The company began in Europe in the late 1950s and by 1964 some 500 machines were in the U.S. Performers included Neil Sedaka, The Exciters, Dionne Warwick, and Procol Harum. Interesting pair for a product that was well ahead of its time.
