Item Description
The 15/16" litho showing a man going over a hurdle has text reading "Labor Sports Union Of America/Second National Meet/New York Aug. 25-26, 1928." This group was founded a year earlier by I.W.W. members, Socialists and Communists. In 1928, the year of this button, the Communists expelled the others. A year later in 1929 the L.S.U. affiliated with the group Red Sports International. This button has tiny 1/16" tub on upper edge but otherwise is Exc. The second .75" button has backpaper of Eagle Regalia Co, NY. This button reads "The Spartakiad July 4-12th Berlin." The "Spartakiad" was used by the Soviet Union in the late '20s to both oppose and offer an alternative to the 'Capitalist' Olympics. This button references a 1931 event in Berlin officially named "2nd International Spartakiad of the Red Sport International." Exc. Both are scarce.
