Item Description
Button is 2" with 5.5" ribbon. Ribbon text reads "Our President/John L. Lewis/And/Thomas Kennedy/Labor's/Champion/April 1st/Local Union/4426/U.M.W. of A./Harmarville, Pa." Kennedy entered the mines at age 12 and by 1925 was the union's secretary/treasurer. He was also Lieut. Governor of Pennsylvania in 1934. He was president of the union 1960-1963. This button is from the 1950s. Rare and NM.
