Item Description
.75" tall enamel on brass made by W&H. Front of the piece has group's logo at center surrounded by wreath at bottom and text at top "Massachusetts Branch." At the start of World War I 3,000 women attended a meeting January 10, 1915 to form an organization to bring it to an end. Jane Addams was elected chairman and others in the group included Fanny Villard, Jeannette Rankin (see #532), Carrie Chapman Catt. In 1915 a suffragist in Holland invited members of the Women's Peace Party to an International Congress of Women in the Hague. Delegates were sent and the women were attacked publicly by Theodore Roosevelt who described them as "Hysterical Pacifists" calling their proposals "Both Silly And Base." By 1917 the group had 40,000 members but after the United States entered the war the party dissolved. High quality and essentially Mint. Rare.
