Item Description
2.25" with enamel depiction on silvered brass of a black man which includes white and black enamel teeth within red enamel lips. The issuing company was a wholesale coal dealer located in Detroit as early as 1896. This piece is from the early 1900s and is stamped on the reverse with a four digit serial number and "Finder/Please Return/To/Jewett Bigelow &/Brooks/Detroit." The edge has a pair of tiny holes where there was once a linked chain to hold keys. We believe the name "Black Joe" either references the name of a coal mine or a 'brand' of coal. Light wear on the reverse with the enamel side NM displaying Mint. Only example we've seen.
