Item Description
Beautifully patterned litho tin container 1.25" dia. with a domed hinged lid .75" tall which opens. Inside is a vertical spindle on which to store used, but not ready to be discarded, chewing gum. This item was a creation of the Lunkenheimer Co. of Cincinnati, more famous for their brass products of valves, whistles and gauges for steam engines. This product was an off shoot of the creative company owner and inventor Edmund Lunkenheimer. From what we've found on the Internet, apparently he tried unsuccessfully to sell this container idea to chewing gum magnate William Wrigley. Underside of the piece carries the product name as well as a patent date of March 1, 1898. Couple of tiny specks of scattered missing paint but about 97% complete. Quite uncommon.
