Item Description
7/8" with portrait and event name plus date "Nov 26, 1927." Reverse has backpaper from Providence, R.I. "Wm. R. Brown Co." Button has both noticeable spotting and a pair of long but hairline cello cracks that catch reflected light. Caldwell played with both the 1928 Indians and the 1932 Dodgers although his minor league career was much more successful between 1929 to 1932. The year before, as indicated on this button, he had national fame as a Yale football player at left halfback in his senior year, Fall of 1927. He lead Yale to an unexpected victory against Georgia and he made All American. However, he was thrown off the Yale team halfway through his senior season when he was declared ineligible for playing a few freshmen football games for Brown in 1924. Many rallied to his support resulting in his hometown of Ashton, Rhode Island declaring a day in his honor. Only example we've seen. Still displays with nice gloss.
