Item Description
This is one of only three examples we've offered in five decades. 1.25" with no maker's name issued in 1941 to the relatively few readers requesting to become a "U.S. Jones Cadet" and who received a "National Emergency Kit" consisting of this membership button, a decoder and additional membership materials. The various items are detailed in Hake's Pop Culture guide where this button is the lead off item as USJ-1. having values in Good, Fine, and N. Mint as $1250.00, $3500.00, and $6000.00. Viewed from the reverse there is exceedingly faint tan color surrounding the brass collet which retains its luster. From the front of the piece the only trace of age are four exceedingly faint dots each about 1/32" on the upper left rim edge. The button has perfect centering and full gloss with intense color. The button still displays N. Mint and only with study does the most subtle trace of age show at all. This is the same example as was in Auction #202 where it sold for $1,150. It has been consigned by that purchaser and has a very conservative opening bid. Among the very rarest comic book premium buttons.
