Item Description
30" dia. thick plastic sign for Horn & Hardart, an American food services company noted for operating the first food service automats in Philadelphia and New York City, opening their first restaurant in Philadelphia on Dec. 22, 1888. Automats are a food vending system where food is displayed in and selected from clear glass showcase-like compartments. This sign is c. 1950s. Border text reads "This Is A World Famous - Horn & Hardart Automat" and has illustrated scene of young boy using the automat, depositing a nickel in a slot for "Layer Cake." Other food items labeled as "Coffee Cake" and "Ham Sandwich." Scattered wear and dust soiling. VF. Rare.
