Item Description
c. 1960. 10.75x14” stiff paper mat has 8.5x11.5” opening revealing superb tempera painting w/African American couple talking to Jesus. American flag is in front of church in background. Lower right has faint “Lingaro” artists signature. Reverse side has address label filled out in ink from artist C. Lingaro to “The Message” w/Nashville address. Painting would display Exc. if properly re-matted and framed. While we could not find the actual issue with this painting, we believe it was a cover painting. Founded in 1934,“The Message” was the house organ for the Black Seventh Day Adventist Church.
