Item Description
21x50.5" ornate gold wood frame has archival mat w/3" dia. embossed seal at lower right featuring Roger Rabbit portrait. Originally obtained at the Sotheby's "Art of Who Framed Roger Rabbit" auction held June 28, 1989 and one of the premiere pieces of that auction. Seal notes the sale title and date. Has corresponding Sotheby's stickers at lower left corner. This was lot #258. Scene was titled "Toons" in Sotheby's catalog. 9.25x39.25" image area has total of 29 characters shown w/Betty Boop in center. Disney characters include Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy, Clarabelle, Brer Bear, Toby Tortoise, Peter from Peter and the Wolf and Dumbo. Warner Bros. characters include Bugs Bunny in center, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Sylvester, Foghorn Leghorn and Tweety. Baby Herman is at right side. Scene is based on Marvin Acme's will being found, bequeathing Toon Town in perpetuity "To Those Lovable Characters, The Toons!" Large image of Jessica Rabbit at right w/Roger holding the will as crowd cheers. Original clear plastic covering of mat has a few minor scuffs, Jessica's cleavage and neck each have barely noticeable tiny crack but everything blends well and is just noted for accuracy's sake. Scene was shot combining three sets of cels that overlap and register. This set is one of only four that was specially assembled for the auction and register together against an individual custom airbrushed background. A superb image w/all characters shown in expressive poses. NM appearance as framed. An incredible piece of art ready for display. This piece sold at the Sotheby's sale in excess of $25,000.
