Item Description
1.75" with Baltimore Badge paper. Hake #3006 and a mate to Hake TR #3138. Design elements are U.S. Capitol with scales by the "Fairbanks" company showing Parker outweighing TR. The name "Fairbanks" references the measuring device company founded in 1830 but is also a play on the name of TR's running mate. The word "Fairbanks" also appears on the scales shown on the pro-TR version of this button. The button includes "Parker And Davis" above with a colorful democratic rooster below next to his cartoon balloon reading "Judge! We're 'It.'" The button curl reads "Copyright - Sept-6-1904." Button surface is flat as made rather than domed. Because of this button's value we are detailing the exceedingly minimal defects. These consist of under 1/16" rub dot below TR's eye at right, about four short and very light typical surface scratches and a single pinpoint indent on extreme edge at 10 o'clock. These minor flaws show only in reflected light. The only trace of stain is a near invisible pair of pinpoint dots on extreme edge at 8 o'clock. Overall, condition is glossy and Exc. The Hake 2004 price guide value is $9,000. An obviously stained example just realized $2240 in Anderson #163. Our opening bid is quite conservative. This button has been in the family of the Baltimore Badge employee who decided to save one (and only one) for himself 107 years ago.
