Item Description
Superbly colored 1.25" showing full figures of TR in safari outfit clasping the hand of Uncle Sam who embraces him with an arm around the shoulder. The slogan is "Welcome From Elba." Elba is the island where Napoleon was in exile. The concept here is that TR is returning from his symbolic exile journey that took him to Africa and Europe. The rarity of this button is likely due to its being available only for the ceremonies held June 18, 1910 following his ship docking in New York City. The button is in NM condition displaying Mint and is complete with its backpaper by the NY firm "Ann St. Badge & Novelty Co." This example is from the Philip G. Straus Collection.
