Item Description
14.25x19" board w/original oil painting. Produced for the Nov. 1978 Playboy magazine, this piece was done by long-time Playboy contributor Erich Sokol. The piece shows a painting in progress of a Greek man and nude woman being spied upon by a cherub. Artist is being watched painting by commissioner of painting who sits in rich clothes reminiscent of Thomas Gainsborough's painting "The Blue Boy." The artist has just sneezed, smashing his face into the freshly painted breast of the woman leaving an exact duplicate of her breast on his face. The commissioner laughs and states was we suppose to be the punchline for this visual joke "Gesundheit." This is written in pencil on the lower left corner along w/"Playboy-277." Artist has signed in bottom middle margin. Large Playboy header has been printed at top. Back of board has the issue number of "277" printed twice along w/"© Playboy-All Rights Reserved Not For Reproduction." Piece has lt. handling wear, some spotting to margins around image but image remains bright and glossy. 2" piece of tape at bottom right corner and a smaller 1" piece at top right corner. VF. This beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece would look Exc. matted and framed.
